Meltan and Sinnoh!

As we bring this rather wet Wednesday to a close, here is a recap of an exciting day regarding news of the mythical Meltan and Generation IV Pokémon!

1. Meltan

As you may have recalled last month, a strange Pokémon resembling a nut with Ditto's body (albeit silver) appeared in Pokémon Go following the Chikorita Community Day event. Unfortunately, it turned out to be Ditto in disguise, which prompted many theories about this new Pokémon and its connection to Ditto. It turned out that Ditto was practically a marketing gimmick for the Let's Go Pikachu and Let's Go Eevee exclusive legendary Meltan. Since the announcement was made, Meltan suddenly disappeared from our radar as more details were being finalized.

Today, we received more information about those details. The first came in a crossover video featuring Professor Oak from the core game series and Professor Willow of Pokémon Go lore. The video was a follow up to Meltan's official reveal last month with what was simply the main factor to obtain the Steel-type legendary. You probably guessed it: in order to get Meltan in Pokémon Go, you will need to invest in a Switch and either one of the Let's Go games and transfer a Pokémon from the Kanto PokéDex in Pokémon Go to the Switch. In return, you will receive a Mystery Box in Pokémon Go which will contain Meltan. Of course, this will be part of a special research study, possibly one of the final stages if tradition serves correctly.

Check out the second installment of "The Two Professors" saga below.

Then, just moments later, another teaser video was released, this time giving Trainers a plethora of theories as to what Meltan will become or do with its abilities. For example, while it does seem that Meltan could possibly evolve despite its legendary status, those shadowy arms in the silhouette strongly resemble those of either Metagross or Regirock.

So, the bottom became simply this: how much do you really want to invest in a Switch just for Meltan? It may seem at least four more years before we see him in Pokémon Go among Generation VIII Pokémon, but if you don't want to wait that long, the Switch seems to be the only way to go for now.

2. Generation IV Coming VERY Soon!

Once again, we have reached the doldrums. Raid numbers have dropped, all of the Hoenn PokéDex has been completed (save for the regionals outside Go Fest), and overall interest has waned. Even Mewtwo, despite his retirement from the EX Raids, seemed to have been put on the backburner.

It's time for a change.

The good news is change is just around the corner.

The APK mine dropped some goodies this evening, including details of the forthcoming update Trainers can expect in the coming days:

- Pokémon originally discovered in the Sinnoh region are arriving in Pokémon GO
- Friend Requests and Gift notifications will now stack
- Pokémon Go AR+ is now available for select Android devices (finally!)
- You can now select multiple Pokémon at a time when preparing to battle at a Gym or participate in a Raid Battle
- Various bug fixes and performance updates

Since the last two generation rollouts, Halloween seems to be the ideal time to flip the "live" switch, and with Mewtwo drawing to a close, it's only a matter of time before we start seeing Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup, much like in the teaser video from yesterday. The question remains, though, will Giratina kick off the Generation IV Legendary Raids? (As a Ghost/Dragon type and Halloween fast approaching, why not!)

And with every new generation comes new movesets and (essentially) legacy or retired movesets. In addition, brace yourself for some major CP nerfing.
